FAQ: What grades do I need for Royal Roads University in Canada?

Documents to support  international student applications to University

The application form is the start of your admission to Royal Roads University in Canada. Your application is not completed until you send us all the required supporting documents in English:

All international applicants

  • international student application form - accurately and fully completed in English.
    Only use the RRU online application form if you want to apply directly to a master's degree)
  • copy of your passport identification page
  • copy of your current Study Permit, if you have one.
  • when English is a second language, an official English test score* report that meets minimum requirements

All applicants may submit certificates, diplomas, testimonials, and background information (work experience, sporting achievements, membership of clubs, etc.) that will strengthen their admission status, but it is not required, unless specified by program, below.

Undergraduate-level applicants

  • Secondary school transcript
    • copies of your secondary education transcripts showing the final 3 or 4 years (including 9th grade)
    • certified copy of high school graduation certificate (if available at time of application)
    • if necessary, the transcript must be translated into English. If translation is required, the translation must be authenticated as a true copy by a notary public or similar official.

Year 3 transfer applicants

  • Academic transcript
    • official copy of your undergraduate transcript showing 2 years of degree-level education.
  • Supporting information
    • 2 letters of reference - BCom, BAIHM applicants only
    • detailed resume (see guidance on right) - BCom, BAIHM, BAGTM, BBA applicants only
    • 2-3 page Statement of Intent - BCom, BAIHM, BAGTM, BBA applicants only

Master's-level applicants

  • Undergraduate transcript
    official attested copy of entire transcript (in original language and English) from all higher education institutions attended
  • Supporting information
    • two letters of reference dated within six months of application (where feasible, one academic and one professional)
    • detailed resume which clearly shows your work experience (see guidance on right)
    • 2-3 page Statement of Intent including a description of your future job or career plans
  • IMPORTANT: read full requirements of Master of Global Management admission documents

Note: official academic records are required prior to arrival at the University, unless official hard copies are requested during the application process. Officials must be sent to the RRU ISC directly from your previous institution.

* English Test Scores

An IELTS or TOEFL score is not required for admission to Royal Roads University in Canada, but official score reports are accepted as proof of English proficiency.

If you don't have an IELTS or TOEFL score, contact us to complete our academic English test - an alternative assessment of your English language level.

If your English proficiency is too low for an undergraduate or master's degree, first join a degree preparation program.

You must provide a bank statement to accompany your application. This must show evidence that whoever is responsible for your fees (e.g. a parent, guardian or sponsor) has the financial ability to cover all your expenses throughout your time at university.

You will be required to present this financial documentation to the Canadian Consular Office in your country in order to obtain your study permit/visa.

Undergraduate students

  • you must have proof of adequate funds to cover at least one full year of tuition/accommodation fees as well as personal expenses (about $30,000 in total)

Graduate students

  • you need to show funds to cover the tuition fee of your program(s) and usually another $10,000 for living expenses.

Resume guidance

Master's programs and the BCom degree require applicants to submit a resume to support their application to Royal Roads University.

The resume should include the following, in chronological order:

  • Work experience
  • Training and professional development
  • Voluntary/unpaid work experience
  • Information Technology training and experience
  • Professional memberships and affiliations
  • International experience (in the form of travel, work, education, or volunteer experience)
